Ipsy Glam Bag April 2013

Ipsy Glam Bag April 2013

DSCN9169 My glam bag came a little later than usual this month which was a little sad since it’s my Birthday Month, BUT I’ll live! For only $10 a month, I receive my Ipsy (formally MyGlam) bag and I’ve yet to be disappointed! I know so many of my friends, family and readers enjoy this monthly bag and for that fashionista on a budget, I CANNOT recommend Ipsy enough! There is no way you could get these products (or comparable products as far as quality) for $10 a month plus a cute makeup bag to boot! This month’s theme was Pretty In Pint, how perfect for Spring!

DSCN9170This month, I received 4 products, 3 of which were full size! Insane! For a “sample subscription” company, I as floored to see so many big products. With a lot of other “boxes” I see a lot of skin or hair care when really, what most people are after is color cosmetics. Ipsy really listens to their customers and I’ve never received a box without at least TWO MAKEUP items.

DSCN9171The first product I pulled out was a full size blush from Be a Bombshell Cosmetics in the color “Sweet Cheeks”. A few months ago we received an eyeliner that I’m still loving to this day so I was thrilled to see this brand again. This formula is super smooth and pigmented.

DSCN9172There is an amazing metallic quality to the color! I can’t stop staring out it and I will be rocking this really soon! This blush sells for $16 which is more than I paid for ALL the products I received! (Thank you Be a Bombshell for Partnering with Ipsy!!)

DSCN9175Next, I got a full size Sation Nail Lacquer.

DSCN9176This is in the color Love at First Byte. Described as a peach toned nude, I am worried it might be sheer, but it’s 3-free and retails for $5, so secretly, I’m hoping I love it!

DSCN9177Next, we received another repeat brand, Mica Beauty Cosmetics. I seriously don’t mind these repeated brands because I really enjoyed the first products I tried from these brands.

DSCN9178This is an eyeshadow in the color “Earth” it’s got pink undertones but is certainly a wearable pink. I originally received a different eyeshadow (by a different color) but swapped for this one. These retail for $14.95

DSCN9179Lastly, I received a deluxe size sample from Big Sexy Hair of their POW Powder Play. This powder is meant to add texture and volume so I’m pumped to give this a go. It should be interesting. Ulta sells the full size of this for just under $16 making this a sample value of $2.11

Overall, my bag had a retail value of $38.06 and there was not a single thing I won’t be trying out and probably loving! If you aren’t already receiving an Ipsy bag in the mail monthly for only $10, I highly recommend you sign up! It’s a great way to discover new brands and products!

A Rosy Glow with Mineral Hygienics. Plus, win it!

A Rosy Glow with Mineral Hygienics. Plus, win it!

DSCN7836

I’ve been a blush girl for goodness knows how long. My collection of blushes ranges from the wild to the mild, but nothing beats an amazing pink blusher. Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to sport a soft pink glow. Whether you’re making plans filled with friends, family or romance, the perfect pink blush goes with any outing.

DSCN7839I decided to reach out to one of my all time favorite mineral companies, Mineral Hygienics and see what they had in terms of blushes- turns out they have an amazing selection and the brush to make the application flawless. I chose to try out a light pink shade with subtle shimmer called Promenade Pink. (I love the name and the color!)

If you remember, Mineral Hygienics offers amazing mineral cosmetics and one of my favorite foundations of ALL time. With minimal ingredients and easy application, both their foundation and their eyeshadows blew me away. So, I was rally excited to try a blush.

DSCN7841

Along with the blush, I also received their Angled Face brush. This is the third Mineral Hygienics brush I’ve had the pleasure of trying and let me tell you, these are the real deal!  These natural fibers are soft on the skin and pick up product with ease.

DSCN7843I really loved the tapered top which made this brush ideal for not only blush application, but also contouring, highlighting and even all over setting powders. This brush retails for $20 and could easily take the place of several brushes in any collection. Sounds like the perfect brush to pack for a Valentine’s Date!

DSCN7850I removed the plastic seal from my blush and gave the brush a few good swirls to add the finishing touch to my face.

DSCN7857I absolutely LOVE this color. There are not enough words to describe how perfect this shade is on my fair skin. It has a slightly more red undertone than a lot of the pink and peach blushes that I own and I love that because it sets this apart from all the other blushes I’ve got at the moment. The other defining feature of this blush is how blendable it is. Like velvet! When using the amazing brush, I’ve never had a more flawless brush application- hands down. (and like I said before, I’m a blush fiend girl!) At $18, this large size blush is a steal and is sure to last a REALLY long time, even with daily use.

Overall, I’m really loving the look, feel and slightly shimmering finish of this blush and like all my Mineral Hygienics products, it lasted all day and didn’t travel even a little! Mineral Hygienics carries colors for everyone and while Promenade Pink was the PERFECT rosy pink for me, they understand that we’re all different SO- they offered to give away this amazing, do it all brush along with the blush of the winners choice! Enter below for your chance to win this rosy glow!

Illuminare Cosmetics

Illuminare Cosmetics

I first heard of Illuminare in my quest for mineral makeups. I love to wear minerals because of the soft, glowy finish, but I have one BIG complaint with mineral cosmetics- they are messy! One slight slip of the hand and you are now wearing your favorite eyeshadow on your blouse. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had this happen to me! Sure, a few companies out there create mineral makeups that are pressed but what you might not realize is that they have no choice but to add a pressing agent to bond them together…So…what if I told you I found a company that gives you the same mineral glow without the mess and in cream form?

I got this set from Illuminare to try out! They sent a sample of their foundation in their Mattifying formula, their Perfect Color Blush (both products are in Florentine Fair) and their Fast Application Pad.

The first thing that caught my eye was their Fast Application Pad- of course I loved it right away. Why? It’s leopard print! But aside from all that ;) This pad made application of both their foundation and their blush absolutely seamlessly. I’ve heard a lot of hype about things like the beauty blender and I’m a big fan of stippling brushes for foundation and cream blush application but I think this pad takes them all. It feels like slightly more course velvet and paired with the other products I received from Illuminare, it really does make for an airbrush finished.

Next was my Mattifying Mineral Foundation, because I am SO fair skinned, I chose their “fair” shade. They have three different finishes of foundation: Moisturizing (Fantastic Finish), Concealing (Extra Coverage), &  Mattifying (Ultimate All Day) I chose the Mattifying one because a.) I’m a touch oily and b.) as a busy mom, cosmetic touch-ups are on my “no-go” list most of the time. I’m lucky some days to put my makeup one the first time.
That said, I really enjoyed the wear and the feel of this foundation. Even though it is a liquid, it’s still mineral so I got smooth, even FULL coverage without any of the weight of a traditional liquid foundation. If you aren’t sure which finish is right for you, they also offer a “sample kit” for only $10.

And last (and my personal favorite) was the Perfect Color Blush. One great thing that Illuminare has done is named these blushes after their foundation counter parts, meaning there is a blush to “match” your foundation color. This takes the guess work out of which color will “work for you”.

I used just ONE DROP and it would have easily been more than enough for both cheeks. I adore this share first off- it’s beyond perfect for my skin tone, but also it was incredibly easy to blend. It was somewhat hard to get off (without the use of soap) from my hand and help up ALL day on my face without any touch ups. I shy away from cream and liquid blushes because I find them difficult to apply and blend in well, this one is certainly the exception to that rule.

Make sure and check out Illuminare when you’re in the market for mineral makeup. I think this company make real winning products and I LOVE the idea of wearing minerals without the mess and with super long lasting results! :)

Mia Mariu Review & Giveaway

Mia Mariu Review & Giveaway

I recently got the opportunity to try an amazing mineral makeup company called Mia Mariu. Their products not only natural but they left me with a healthy glow- even after I took my makeup off!

The first item I tried was their Perfecting Mineral Finish Foundation in Vanilla. While the color was a tad too yellow for me, I added it in with some primer for a lighter application. This foundation offers medium to full overage that feels and looks flawless. I did find that it offered a drier application than most my foundation, but we should all be applying a moisturizer anyhow ;) This 1oz bottle retails for $25

Next was this BEAUTIFUL blush in Maria Azucena. I chose this candy based on the online photos and fell in love, but it was even better in person.

The color is SO rich and pigmented and adds amazing color to any look, but you can’t over do it; trust me, I tried! This blush is also super smooth. This retails for $17

So, this is my final look! I’ve been using this combo everyday for over a week and several people have commented on my glow-y skin ;)

Starlook’s Starbox July

Starlook’s Starbox July

I’ve been anticipating this box for a while now! After I got my first box last month, I didn’t think I’d survive a month before the next box came- in case you’re wondering I did! ;) And since last months box shipped a little late (they were giving people a longer window to sign up), I actually only waiting 22 days! I’ve used items from the last box every day to tide me over.

If you didn’t already know, Starbox is a monthly subscription service that costs $15 per month (plus $1.98 shipping) and contains 3-4 full sized products from the Starlooks like. Starlooks makes mostly makes cosmetics (and they work with a chemist that used to formulate for MAC) but they also have hair products, tools brushes and a few other goodies. So far, we’ve only tried their cosmetics and one amazing brush, but I’ll be looking forward to the rest of their line as well.
If you decide to sign up, leave a comment and let me know what you’ll be looking forward to trying most :)

This months “behind-the-scenes” and LookBook showed a beachy theme with bold, yet versatile colors with a title of “Maui Babe”. Other than the beautiful models’ looks- we had no clues as to what would be in the box.

One thing is different this month- the box. They changed it up on us with a cute, off-white box that was smaller than the previous editions. It had a cute gold bow accent and peach colored paper inside. I’ve been really liking Starlook’s presentation so far. It isn’t something that all subscription companies think of, but it goes a long way with me.

As always, they include a card with a break down of what is in your box. Unlike other companies, they include the price of the full sized item right on the card. That’s great for two reasons- should you want to repurchase AND so you can automatically see how much of a value you are getting. (and you can see how incredible inexpensive their line is compared to others in the industry with the same quality)

So, to the most important part- the contents. I approve! Haha. It’s all awesome. We got 3 full sized products and two gifts.

First up is a Tender Gloss Lipstick in the color Citron. I’ve been wanting to try an orange since Tangerine is the color of the year. This “lipstick” is incredibly glossy and wearable. It’s not even the slightest bit sticky and it feels amazing. It reminds me of Burberry Lip Mist, but bigger and less expensive- score! If you think you can’t pull this off, try it. Swatching it on my hand I was still not 100% sure, but when I put this somewhat sheer formula on my lips, I was sold. (Check out Twitter for a picture!)  At first, I was ready to call this my favorite item in the box, but then I moved on to the eyeshadow…

Next was a full sized (of course) eyeshadow in the color Gold Dust. I have blue eyes so give me yellow, gold, bronze- or any combination of the three & I’m thrilled! But I can’t think of an eye color that a nice yellow won’t enhance! I know it’s a bit of a bold color for some, but try blending out a green or nude, this color is SO wonderful for so many things. Just like last month, I love the formula of this eyeshadow, it’s incredibly smooth and never caky or chalky. I couldn’t ask for more from any eye shadow.

The last cosmetic item in the box this month was a blush/highlighting bronzer in  Classy. Love the name. At first, I was scared of the color. I was worried that it wouldn’t show up on my skin because I am so pale.

I was wrong, to say the least. It’s so pigmented and gave my skin an amazing glow, shimmer & hint of color. This is the smoothest blush I have ever used. Period.

Swatches of all three products. (no primers, etc)

One of our surprised was a Quartz Crystal. This are suppose to “attract energy, help maintain focus and are the ultimate symbol of beauty.” I can see how this might seem wonky to some people who aren’t “into” this sort of things, but I have big jewelry plans for this crystal, so Thanks Starlooks!

Our second surprise was a compact. Mine was a little scratched up, but because I’ll likely just be throwing this in my purse to get scratched and beat up anyhow, I didn’t mind. It has two different magnifications of mirrors inside.

The value of this month’s box was $35 plus our surprises. Well worth the price of the $15 per month subscription. I’m so excited for what’s to come with Starlooks and I look forward to trying more of their products!
(hint, hint- check back soon for one awesome first look!)

Physicians Formula pH Matchmaker

Physicians Formula pH Matchmaker

I recently got the chance to try some Physicians Formula products that I have been eying for a while now!
You’ve probably all seen their pH Matchmaker line, it lights up! That made the line a total attention getting for me.

Check it out!

From The pH Matchmaker like, I tried three things: the Lip gloss, blush and light bronzer.

This pH Powered Lip Gloss reacts to light and your pH to become your perfect shade in about 60 seconds. The formula is super smooth and  boasts a very long wear. It is meant to last up to 10 hours. I wore mine for a fairly long time, but it did not hold up through eating. On my lips, this turned the most amazing dark, but hot pink.

Next was the pH Powdered blush. I saw a definite change in the color of this blush after 60 seconds! More than I expected to! It went on super bright as shown in its compact but evened out to a peachy coral on my cheeks. I adore this color. I was worried that it would become too dark once applied as to look like I put too much on, but no. It was very easy to apply this like normal, using your normal amount.

The real winner for me of the pH Matchmaker line was the Bronzer. I cannot say enough! This perfectly blended and matched to my skin without an “orange” look. I applied it heavier to contour, but this looks amazing all over the face and declate for an amazing tanning effect. For someone who me that likes to use self tanners, this was a great option instead of having to switch concealers and foundations every time my tan changed. Not to mention the 14 hour wear!

I also got to try the new Organic Wear Last Boosting Mascara. This formula is free of harsh chemicals, synthetic preservatives, Parabens, and GMO’s (genetically modified organisms- GROSS!) It’s 100% natural origins and obviously, not tested on animals. Sounds like a dream, but how does it apply? Wonderfully, while the drying time is a bit longer (probably because the formula doesn’t have any nasty chemical dryers) but it looks amazing and is easily applied with it’s recyclable applicator brush. I love the design of the tube and it had the fattest brush I have ever seen. Wonderful mascara!!

Which Physicians Formula Product is your favorite?
