Hello 2017, Hello Fresh

Yay! We are two weeks into 2017 and so far, so good. You with me? I keep seeing heaps of my friends on Facebook raving about how 2017 is looking like it’s going to be their year. We’ve got a few things that are a little up in the air in politics, let’s be honest, but I think this is the year of “it is what you make it” and I’m ready to make the most of a new year! I don’t typically do resolutions because I’m one that tries to change when the mood strikes. I’m a do-er by nature so the idea of waiting for a new year to roll over before I stop or start something is too much for me. I am however, cheering on everyone who is wanting to make a positive change for 2017! I know many of you have resolutions around you schedule, your family, your diet and more. Because of that, I couldn’t think of a better post to share with you all for this month than my shipment from Hello Fresh!

Hello Fresh is an amazing food subscription that sends you everything you need to cook delicious meals in your own home. They take out the guess work and the dreaded “Honey, what’s for dinner?” Or “Where do you want to eat?” couples’ conversations. Inside the box, you get full step-by-step instructions and pre-packaged, measured and often cut/prepped items There is a Hello Fresh size subscription for every family. You can choose to serve two or four. For two people, you can get 3, 4 or even 5 meals delivered at once and for a family of 4, you receive 3 delicious meals. There is the option of the Classic menu box (where you choose between the 6 meals being shipped out that week), a Veggie Box or their newer selection is called the Family Plan which serves 2 adults and two children while taking into consideration things like the spice level of a meal and picky eaters.

We received the Classic Plan for 4 people with 3 meals.

When I opened the box, we received an envelope full of great promotions and information on some other subscriptions and food related deals. We even got a deal from Keurig! We also got a booklet with all the information on the 3 meals we’d be cooking and this great Hello Fresh branded apron. I have a soft spot for aprons so I thought this was the cutest bonus!

For reach day, everything you need (minus the protein) comes prepackaged in these little boxes. I love how easy these are to stack in my fridge and keep organized! (the proteins are located at the bottom of your larger shipping box, well packaged with ice!) If you notice, there is a great blue fishie on the first box labeled “Rapid Crispy Shrimp Tacos”. It reads “Make First” as a reminder that things with seafood in them should be used first for the freshest recipe!

Everything inside laid out, minus the shrimp. For this specific recipe, there was little chopping or prepping. My favorite thing about Hello Fresh is that not only do you not have to plan a menu or think about what to cook- like most moms, I feel like I’m stuck in a bit of a dinner rut making the same items over and over, but you don’t have to measure anything either. You receive the right amounts of each items to make your meal. Our Taco Tuesday was banging and you can see more on my Instagram 😉

On Wednesday, we made what was hands down THE BEST burger I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. Not only does Hello Fresh introduce us to new flavors, but it gives me new ideas for preparing foods I already love. Let me explain…

For this Balsamic Onion Burger meal, there is just 6 easy steps. Aside from everything included in the box, you can read the short list of items needed in the top right corner. This meal required some cooking oil that isn’t included. We always have olive oil on hand, so that wasn’t a problem at all. We also needed bowls, baking sheets and a pan.

First, we pre-heat the oven…

And then prepare the cauliflower. My family roasts cauliflower in the oven often and we love it! Hello Fresh said to add salt and pepper and drizzle with olive oil and toss, which we normally do, but they also added panko. I was skeptical, but it’s delicious. 10 out of 10 would highly recommend.

Throw these beauties in the oven.

Next,  we cut the onion and chopped or grated the garlic. I had never grated the garlic so I tried it, thinking it would be fun. (Spoiler alert, it wasn’t but at least I tried something new!)

We cook the onion with the times provided and then added the balsamic for an amazing flavor combination.

I formed the patties and cooked up burgers, super easy!

We toasted the buns in the oven, added the garlic to the mayonnaise and assembled the burger. The cauliflower timed out just right and was ready within two minutes of our burgers being ready as well.

To re-cap, the prep was absolutely minimal with only two vegetables needing to be chopped, we tossed the cauliflower in goodness and let the oven do the work and only cooked the burgers and onions. The flavor pay off for such an easy, quick meal was outstanding!
